Corn Roast

Sunday, August 18th ~ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

Join us for a good old-fashioned corn roast! Come celebrate the heart of the summer harvest season with threshing demonstrations, live music, wagon rides, plenty of fire-cooked corn and more.

  • Featuring:
    • Peterborough Agricultural Society Homecraft Show in the PCAHB (August 16, 17 & 18)
    • Horse and wagon rides
    • Threshing and fanning mill demonstrations
    • Learn about the many different ways settlers used corn
    • Harvest songs performed by the Peterborough Concert Band
    • Corn photo booth
    • Traditional music performed by Appalachian Celtic on the Weaver Shop porch (12 pm to 3 pm)
    • Natural dyeing demonstrations with corn and corn flowers
    • Flop mattress repairing and stuffing demonstrations
    • Broom making demonstrations
    • Learn about the history of whisky
    • Stitching demonstrations by the Northumberland Hills Stitchery Guild
    • Discover the history of candy corn and how this sweet treat got its shape
    • Weaving demonstrations on the Jacquard loom
    • Corn-on-the-cob eating contest (2 pm)
    • Corn craft and corn hole demonstrations and games at the Ayotte Cabin
    • Corn grinding demonstrations
    • Kawartha Truth and Reconciliation quilt on display
    • Fresh Empire Cheese curds and bread for sale in the Cheese Factory ($)
    • Corn husk braiding demonstrations
    • Harvest songs being played on the organ in the Glen Alda Church
    • Performances by the Scottish Country Dancers (set demonstration times)
    • Hot dogs and chips for sale in the PCAHB Courtyard ($)
    • Rabbit & Cavy show
    • Old fashioned schoolyard games
    • Shingle-making demonstrations at the Shingle Mill
    • Grinding demonstrations at the Lang Grist Mill

Admission: Adults- $15, Students & Seniors (60+) – $10, Youths 5 to 14 Years of Age – $7, Children Under 5 Years of Age – Free, Family Pass (includes 2 Adults and up to 4 Youths) – $40

Please note: Special activities are subject to change due to weather, materials, volunteer availability and unforeseen circumstances. Last admission is 3 pm, but we recommend you give yourself a minimum of 2 hours for your visit. On-site parking is available on a first come first served basis.
