Tying the Knot: Early Wedding Traditions

Sunday, August 14 ~ 10 am to 4 pm

Join us as we delve into wedding traditions of the 19th century and learn about some of the origins of practices popularized then, and now. Slip on your old wedding gown, bridesmaids’ frock or suit and dress up for the celebration with us!

  • Horse & wagon rides
  • Bobbin lace-making demonstrations
  • Wedding display in the Keene Hotel
  • Musical performance at 12:30 pm by the Peterborough Concert Band
  • Demonstrations by the Cobourg Stitchery Group
  • Quilting demonstrations by the Kawartha Quiltmakers Guild
  • English tea served in the Great Hall of the PCAHB (additional fee)
  • Create a Tussi Mussi with the Peterborough Master Gardeners
  • Dance lessons with English Country Dancers
  • Learn about the tradition of love spoons
  • Craft for kids
  • Natural dyeing demonstrations
  • Refreshment and sweet treats in the Keene Hotel (additional fee)
  • Wedding attire fashion show at 2:00 pm in partnership with Pickering Museum Village

Admission: Adults- $15, Students & Seniors (60+) – $10, Youths 5 to 14 Years of Age – $7, Children Under 5 Years of Age – Free, Family Pass (includes 2 Adults and up to 4 Youths) – $40
