Heritage Christmas Program
November to December, 2009

Grade 2/3

Rekindle the warmth and charm of a true pioneer Christmas with a visit to our historic village. This full day program, runs from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and helps students work towards expectations outlined in the "Traditions & Celebrations" and "Pioneer Life" strands of the curriculum

Students will:

  • Learn about the unique traditions early settlers brought with them from their homelands.
  • Bake gingerbread cookies and make a Victorian holiday decoration.
  • Spend some time in our 1886 schoolhouse and discover the differences between pioneer and modern classrooms
  • Travel to our Transportation Barn and see why winter was the best time of year to travel

Cost:
Student $5, Teachers and E.A.s are complimentary. Additional supervisors are $5 each (prices include taxes).

"Trials and Hardships: The First Year"
January to April 2009

Grade 7/8

This full day program runs from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and offers students a hands-on approach to understanding the origin and development of settlement in Canada during the late 18th and early 19th Centuries.

This program will help students work towards expectations outlined in the "British North America" strand of the curriculum.

Students will:

  • Learn about strategies the settlers used during their first year to adapt to the challenges faced when they arrived at their new home
  • Tour homes of the early settlers
  • Construct a rail fence, or experiment with snowshoes.

Cost:
Student $5, Teachers and E.A.s complimentary, additional supervisors $5 (prices include taxes). Only one class booked per day.

Spring School Tours
May 19 - June 25, 2009

All Grades

Lang Pioneer Village provides an excellent opportunity for students and teachers to witness topics that have been discussed during their classroom pioneer studies. Students can meet and observe the activities of the blacksmith, storekeeper, printer and miller. They will be welcomed into the homes and businesses of the Village by our costumed interpreters and learn about the daily activities of a pioneer family. This is a full day program. Tours are self-guided and will take approximately four hours.

Cost:
Student $3.50, Teachers and E.A.s are complimentary. Additional adult supervisors $5 (prices include taxes).

School Days Program

All Grades

Exchange your modern classroom for our one room 1886 Schoolhouse. Students and teacher can re-create a day in a 19th Century classroom. The South Lake School contains 14 useable two-seater desks, slates, two blackboards, an abacus, and a hand held bell. An informative pre-visit package will assist teachers in planning their day.

Cost: $75 per day (+ GST). Guided tours of the Village are available for an extra $2 per student.

Grade 4

Our instructor will visit your classroom for this half-day program that focuses on the "Structures & Mechanisms" strand of the curriculum.

Cost: $80 per class with a maximum of 35 students

Hands-On Tours
July 6 to October 9, 2009
Monday to Friday 

School groups, day camps, clubs and youth programs are invited to spend a day at Lang and participate in the daily activities of a pioneer child. Activities include pioneer style laundry, making dipped candles, and making a print on a Washington Flatbed Press.  As well, a take home craft and refreshments at the Keene Hotel are included in the fee.
Cost: $5.00 per participant (GST included).
Supervisors are complimentary.
