Employment Opportunities

All positions require working unusual hours during the busy summer season and for special events. The Museum is not on any bus or public transit routes so dependable transportation is required.

 Seasonal Positions

The Museum is currently accepting applications for the 2013 season. The deadline for submitting applications is Friday, February 8, 2013. Please refer to the Employment Opportunities page on the County of Peterborough's website for details.

Lang Pioneer Village typically offers seasonal employment from mid-May to Labour Day each year.

Historical Interpreter I

The Interpreter is required to interpret a number of different historical buildings, conduct guided tours, and demonstrate domestic skills and crafts and/or historical trades. The Interpreter is also responsible for the cleaning of their assigned building.  This position requires working unusual hours during the busy summer season, and for Special Events.  The Interpreter reports directly to the Museum Manager.


Position requirements include:
* Excellent customer service skills
* Good communication skills, and an ability to direct, control, and present to large numbers of visitors
* Willingness to wear a costume, and present to the public as an authentic 19th-century person while on the job (no piercings, etc.) 
* Knowledge or interest in local 19th-century history an asset 
* Available to work weekends as well as flexibility to work extra hours as required
* Preference will be given to those with an interest/ experience in carpentry and/or blacksmithing,  cooking on a woodstove or open hearth, sewing, gardening.
* Supports Gift Shop and Food Booth operations, as required
* Reliable transportation to the Village is required

Rate for 2013: $10.99 per hour.
